“Peter” is the new single from Matthew Robins, previously heard live on Matthew’s recent CD “Noah’s Ark,” “Peter” is the first single from his soon to be released new album “I AM A ROBOT.” Based on various episodes from Matthew’s life, he spins these narratives together and tells the story of “Peter.”
Here’s what the press say about Matthew’s music:
“music that has the wild and rhythmic insistence of a heartbeat”
Exeunt Magazine
“Robins’s music is in the indie-folk vein. Peppered with pop inflections, the tunes slip easily between tempos that vary from klezmer-like jauntiness to a lilting waltz. The tales they convey are odd slivers of surreal whimsy . . . “
The Times
“It’s easy to see why audiences and theatremakers alike are beguiled by this kooky West Country artist, whose brand of low-fi storytelling taps into our new-found affection for the homemade and wholesome.”

'Flyboy is alone again this Christmas'-Matthew Robins live at Opera North, Leeds 10.12.2011
'He was going to be spending Christmas alone, he gave himself a bath then decorated the tree. Flyboy had made the decorations at school: a poodle, a string of stars, the moon and a family of flies....'.
Musician and shadow puppet artist Matthew Robins tells the heart-rending story of Flyboy, a mutant half-human/half-fly, trying to live a normal life in a small town. Animations projected onto the big screen create a live shadow-puppet opera as Robins and his band sing and perform on stage.
Robins’ music draws on references from modern indie-pop to early musical theatre; everything from a waltz to a lullaby, from the child-like to the surreal.
‘The whole thing feels like watching a silent movie in which every aspect has been created by a wayward child genius.’ The Guardian
